I'm sixteen and this summer I am planning on getting my first job. The only problem is I have social anxiety, and hate situations where I have to deal with the public. I'm definitely not a people's person, and perfer to work alone. What should I do?
Afraid to get a job b/c of social anxiety?
Maybe you could do some community services such as babysitting, this will usually focuses on younger children or even pets. You are really out of luck as there is not much of an opportunity for teenagers with working in an environment which doesn't tend to peoples needs. You have to work on yourself, and build enough confidence to go to interviews and get to know the situation so you feel comfortable enough to work. Ask people around you what are some possible job opportunities to go into that would not directly be interacting with people.
If you have any counselor's around, (maybe school), try to speak to them about your problem and find others who might understand how you feel.
Reply:You should take the steps necessary to overcome your social anxiety. If social anxiety is getting in the way of your life than you need help. See a psychologist and you will feel much better. Social anxiety may not be as difficult to overcome as you may imagine.
Reply:Take one of the free on-line career personality test to see where you best fit. It is better to start out with the right job rather than cause yourself stress or loss of work with gaps in your resume. So I would suggest taking one of these test first and then go after the right job. Not just any job will do when you suffer from social anxiety. You have much to offer in the right position. Or you might consider getting some experience and this starting your own small business.
