So, I'm going to school during the day. I've always worked Mon-Fri office type jobs and classes at night. But I want to give my 110% this time and take classes in the am so I'm nice and fresh. I need a job thats descent paying b/c I'll still have bills unfortunately lol, but I've done waitressing before and not really fond of it. I was thinking maybe banquet server?? Is it long hours? The pay? OR any other suggestions? Thanks so much =)
Any good/descent jobs while in College?
Banquet serving is pretty much waitressing without the tips. And you are not guaranteed to work a lot maybe only when there is a big event. You should try your school placement office they usually have companies who want to hire college students and are willing to work around your schedule. Also try temp agencies or telemarketing/ call centers these are good options. Check your school bulletin boards. I found a great job that was posted around my school. It is even an office job that WANTS you to bring your books and study. Good Luck
Reply:Have you tried Bartending?
Better pay than banquets or waiting table and if you are in a restaurant the hours aren't so bad.
Reply:Waitressing worked for me because the best tippers were at dinner (if you have serious people skills) and because restaurant work is so flexible .
Banquet servers make lousy $ .
But , unless you get a good restaurant AND have those social skills , waitressing will be meager bucks too .
Reply:You might want to look into hotel as a front desk operator, bellhop, valet, etc. You can amke decent money if you are able to get some type of supervisory role, like a night auditor.
I made great money fro colleg as a bellhop and the work was low stress, in fact I was able to study alot during down times.
Reply:I applaud you for your decision to work while in school. I worked as a waitress while my husband went through college and that was the best way for us to make money!
The hours can be very flexible when you work evenings.Plus customers are out to relax, interact and have fun (meaning better tips)
Besides the money you can make some very interesting connections (for potential professional jobs lined down the road).
All in all is the ONLY way to make decent money in pm while in school.
Good luck!
Reply:mmm...i actually preferred taking my classes at night. i always found the instructors to be more sympathetic to those who worked all day and still came to class at night....but that's not the question.
take a look at lockbox processors at banks. they usually work evenings/nights with WAY better pay than waitressing.
since you have food service experience, have u thought of bartending??? some restaurants will train u if you make a good impression. go to the country clubs/swanky hotels and see what they have...
have u looked at clerical positions in warehouses? (shipping %26amp; receiving clerk?) u've got skills...don't sell yourself short.
your school SHOULD have some type of career resource center to help you as well. if not, start making buddies with your instructors...make them WANT to help u.
Reply:Ok watch out for the scam above. My suggestion would be to get a job in the library on campus. They often have very flexible hours, give you time to study when it is quiet and save you travel time as it is on campus.
