Drove it to work and smelled strong burning odor coming from under the hood. Still have minor vibes while idling and a fluttering type noise under the hood. Any ideas what the burning smell could be? Didn't seem to be coming from the tires. I will check motor mounts tomorrow but the dealer said they had checked them out and they were fine.
99 Accord vibrates while cruising. Had rotors, caps, plugs, valve job, and a/c condenser replaced. New brake pads
Do a compression check.
Reply:Quite possible the balance shaft belt wasn't put on correctly.
There are two timing belts on that one. One is the big one and runs the camshaft. The smaller drives the balance shaft in the crankcase. If that is out of time, the motor will vibrate.
After that much repair, there will be some strange smells for a little while. That is normal.
Reply:The burning smell and fluttering noise could be a belt rubbing on something, but probably isn't related to the vibration at cruising speed.
The vibration at cruising speed could be coming from your tires being out of balance or out of round (bent rims, etc) Another possibility is that the drive axles are wearing out. They usually crap out at around 100,000 miles. If you hear a clicking noise when you make tight turns, your drive axles are bad and almost certainly the source of the vibration.
Reply:Check your oil and water, as well as the tires. As far as the burning smell , you really didn't give much of a description. Was it like steam, oil, or electrical?
Reply:well maybe i can help you first when you noticed the car smell did it first start off as a real bad or rotten egg smell? if so guess what you need to only change the cat. converter at the muffler shop about 300 bucks and your car will be fine no more shaking due to exhaust back up and no more fluttering when driving.and don't even worry about the mounts the mechanic that did all that work to your car ---------------------well lets just say look for another mechanic and you'll have some extra money. next he's gonna tell you to replace the fluid in the head lights or that the tires are out of round
