I have been offered a job as a C.O.at a juvinile detention facility. should i take it?

i have been on probation since i was 13 and just recently got off. i am 21 now. most of my growing up has been in and out of juvinile detention facilities, court runned schools, and foster homes. i feel that i may be able to talk to some of these kids with real knoledge about where they are at in life with hopes that they will relate to me and mabey i could stop them from having to go down the same road i had to go down. i know what these kids are going through and would like to help but at the same time growing up as i did i really do not like being around cops. its not like i have never met a cop that was a decent person but theres just something in the back of my mind that doesnt like them. i am not really sure if this would be the job for me but i really could use the pay raise and the benifits. what do you think?

It would be nice for you to help people from your experience but at the same time, if you don't like being around cops then maybe it's not the right job for you. It's fun to be around people you like when you're at work. It makes it not seem like work.
Reply:With ur qualifications of a community misfit ur the last person to be but in charge of a dogs home - let alone young people who desperately need all the help they can get!

What ru going to do - when the chips r down and some young boy / gal really needs help! Ur the kind who'd cut and run! Responsibility, caring, helping isn't in ur make-up - if it were u wouldn't be asking us - you'd have gone straight out and done it!
Reply:100% yes. you will be more effective in that line because you have been there. keep it going in your heart and mind and

you will be able to do good for those kids this time. good luck
Reply:Do not take the job. You would be much more effective as a volunteer or a program coordinator. I know you need the pay raise but you cant be in this line of work strictly for the money. I work in corrections and I need to be able to trust the people I work with with my own life. I need to feel that I am safe and they will have my back the whole time without a second thought. If you already feel uncomfortable then you have answered your own question. Best of luck.
Reply:What is a C.O?
