Washington D.C.?
My dad may get a job in Washington D.C., and I want to move there with him (I live in California). Problem is... I'm in the middle of 6th grade, and don't want to leave my friends!
So, shou;d I wait till Summer Vaca to move, or should I just move?
Washington D.C.?
Do what feels right to you, but it seems it will be somewhat disruptive to move in the middle of the school year. So why not move after school ends!
Reply:I hope you love it here. Also, maybe your friends (and their families) will come visit you from California if you live close to Washington. It's a great city with a huge amount to see! Report It
Reply:This is the sort of decision that adults usually end up making for you, unfortunately.
If you end up having to move now, there's one advantage. While you'll be "the new kid" for the rest of this school year, by the time the new school year starts in September you should already be one of the gang, with friends to have lunch with and do stuff with. You should also have some Washington friends to hang out with over the summer, which wouldn't be the case if you waited until the summer to move.
Either way is tough, but be sure to talk with your dad and any other adult you trust to help you make the right decision.

Which language has more job opportunities attached to it. C++ or Java.?
is C++ dead? is Java going to die%26gt; I have heard so much misinformation about each.
Which language has more job opportunities attached to it. C++ or Java.?
I think if you do web page stuff, lower end stuff Java might still be relevant, but if you want hard core programming and higher paying jobs, you will have to know C++, C# and object orientated programming.
Reply:Well as fast as technology changes and new languages and techologies develop... it's hard to really tell. I believe things are starting to move towards C#, which is similar to C++.. so that may not hurt to know..
As far as Java.. I think it's also dying out.. but JavaScript, AJAX are related... and still used so I think you'll find it even.. and benefical to know both.
Reply:Both definitely will have jobs, though I would say that I've seen Java asked for in jobs more than C++, but both are good skills to have. I would go with whatever one you enjoy more, you will be better at the one you enjoy more and produce better programs. Also, once you learn one mainstream programming language it is much easier to learn another, so knowing both may not be a bad idea.

Which job should I choose? Job A, B or C?
I want a job that will give me alot of hours. I am 17. I want a job thats laid back. and fun. %26amp; I will love going to. I went to 2 job interviews today and got both of the job. %26amp; talk to the manager at one, and she said she will hire me also, I kinda know her,
%26amp; I dont know how much they pay an hour?
Job A-
Dominos Pizza.
Seems like an okay job.. I can get as much as 40 hr in the summer time.. %26amp; it looks a little boring. I can probably like do my homework there. In the free time. %26amp; probably txt on my fone.I dont know anyone who work there and they are all older people. I went to the interview and I am hired!
Subway A-
I am hired here also. The manager was like okay. I am posting the schedule.. %26amp; he seems very strict. He said no friends hanging out no txting no nothing.. %26amp; those ppl kinda tense there.. Kinda scares me.
Which job should I choose? Job A, B or C?
Job c sounds the one you are most interested in. Take the one you like the most even if it is a little less salary.
Reply:why don't you call and ask for the wages for each job. This is something that should really be taken into consideration before accepting a job. What if one pays $10 an hour, but the other only pays $6 an hour. Befoe accepting any of the jobs, you should find out the pay and then make your decision.

Tungsten?
Reply:Most metals melt before you get to 3000°C. Tungsten has a melting point of 3410.
Most common ceramics aren't even very usable at thoes temps, and depending on the thermal stresses may fracture if there is a 3000°C difference across them.
Reply:at 3000c most of the lighter metals are molten so they would be able to carry the heat as a liquid does
I wouldnt use sodium or the lower metals as they are highly reactive
ie they WILL go BANG
probably aluminium or copper
a further problem is that it would have to be a multi stage transfer operation using progressively lower heat transfer mediums very expensive
but if you actually mean insulators that would be a much simpler operation probably ceramics or some variation
The Shuttle at reentry reachs at least 3000C

Job openings in D.C. and P.G. County, MD???
I'm 22. I graduated with a Bachelor's in Sociology. I have a college degree, and several years of office experience, but yet i do not have a job. It has been several months now. i have been applying everywhere, put my resume on every job website, but i only seem to be getting temp work. i need a job with a salary, with insurance...i'm so stressed. Social work is not my thing (need a MA anyway). I want to save up to get my master's in Cultural Studies, not to mention move out of my parents house.
Does anyway know of any job openings outside of retail and selling cars?
Job openings in D.C. and P.G. County, MD???
I'm not familiar with Maryland, but you should apply for a state job. They don't pay squat to start, but there is a lot of opportunity for upward mobility and the benefits are out of this world!!! In Delaware, after 90 days, you get full medical, dental, life insurance, retirement plan and various other perks, in addition to 12 paid state holidays off per year and 15 vacation days and 15 sick days per year accrued monthly beginning your very first month (9.5 hrs per month). It's not a bad idea. I was in your situation not too long ago!!!
Oh yeah, I sent you an email about this too.
Reply:Use a head hunter.
Reply:Try County government jobs. If you live close to Montgomery County, check their website at www.montgomerycountymd.gov (click on "Careers" or something like that on the left). I don't know how PG County is with government jobs.

I am a LPN interested in relocating and would like to use the internet to search and apply for jobs.
How do I find job openings in Charlotte, N.C in the geriactric field?
Monster , Yahoo Hotjobs, Careerbuilder are some of the largest job boards, where you can apply for jobs and upload your resume. Since Craigslist, allows free job postings, many smaller companies post their vacancies on this online classifieds website. You can also search for jobs from multiple websites using aggregators like SimplyHired and Indeed. Referrals are also becoming a increasingly popular way to get hired.

Any sites out there for good Programming jobs?
I'm currently going to school for Game Software Design and am in the process of learning C++ Programming. What I wanted to find out is where I can find some good sites have job postings for any C++ Programming positions. Preferbly some where I can write the programs at home and then send them to the companies when I am finished. Does anyone know of any sites?

If you want to find stuff paticularly within the game industry, check out the links below.
Reply:Well, have you tried a search or three for "programming +outsourced" ? That brings a bunch up for me. Failing that, try out Rentacoder.com. I'm afraid that what you're likely to get are freelance assignments more than a steady telecommute. Good luck.

Looking for a job in the Washington D.C. area...?
Focusing on the following areas: museums, historical societies and/or organizations, non-profit sector jobs. Key abilities in development, membership, and prospect research. Can anyone suggest any businesses, organizations, foundations, etc. to look in to? I've tried searching Monster.com, Craigslist, etc. but would like some other suggestions....
Looking for a job in the Washington D.C. area...?
For the DC area, your best bet is to look for jobs at www.washingtonpost.com. They have tons of local jobs on there. Many of the museums in DC are part of the US government, so you may want to check www.usajobs.gov. Another site (for non-profits, etc.) is www.idealist.org.
Good luck!

Why do you HAVE to do religous studies for a g.c.s.e?
in my school it is a necestity and you have no choice ..
i was wandering wat the point is?

Why do you HAVE to do religous studies for a g.c.s.e?
There is no point.
Religion is nothing but blind belief, dogma, bigotry, superstition, the preservation of vested interests and the exploitation the weak-minded. The conclusion is, therefore, that God is a both a fantasy and the delusion of fools.
Reply:You do not have to.
You probably go to a faith school, or a state school maintained largely by a faith group which will have a lot of influence on its curriculum.
Reply:Life skills, learn about other cultures, understanding peoples beliefs.
Reply:Even if you are not religious it is important that you learn about the world's important religions. There is so much going on in the world right now that has religious overtones, that is necessary to have at least a basic idea about them to be able to make sense of current events.
Reply:in reference to jobs and having the gcse grade just improves your awareness of other religions and the traditions of the cultures. in my personal experience and to jobs it shows that you are equally open to respect other culturs, ethnicity etc. .
Reply:It help to empathise with people from different 'ethnic' backgrounds when you get into work.. You don't want to be fired for saying something and the listener takes it out of context. Racism, or a lack of care, when talking to people of different ethnicities and religious background beliefs to yourself is gross misconduct in many workplaces, so do yourself a favour and learn the basics about religions now so you don't get the sack from the future job you might like!! *shruggs*
Reply:its an easy A, dont complain
Its multi-cultural brainwashing though, so take it with a pich of salt.
Reply:Because schools get extra funding for it! And it's part of a government initiative to pretend that we're a Christian country. But stick with it, you might actually find it interesting if you pay attention and treat it like a "real" subject!
Reply:i dont no to be honist , i have to do it do , apparently its compulsary and set by the gouv !

What's the impression of "c'um laude" on the diploma? Does it matter for prospective employers?
Prospective employers that pay high salaries and/or admit superlative grads in prestigious institutions, i.e. think tanks %26amp; government/business positions.
Will the impression help with these following distinctions on the diploma:
Summa c'um laude
Magna c'um laude
C'um laude
The 'higher' the distinction, the more prestigious in picking the pool of candidates with similar honors (including simply 'c'um laude') for the demanding yet luxurious job position?
Do "egregia c'um laude" and "maxima c'um laude" exist at some American universities that issue diploma with one of these distinctions?
What's the impression of "c'um laude" on the diploma? Does it matter for prospective employers?
Since these honors at graduation are given based upon the GPA, knowing that you graduated with honors would be redundant to any employer who cares about grades, since you would already have had to tell them your GPA.

Jobs for an average computer science major?
I recently graduated from college with a degree in computer science. My GPA was a horrible 2.7. I've always been a smart student but I picked the wrong major and went to a wrong college. I didn't know much about computer but I was interested in it. I thought I would learn a great deal in college but seriously the main professor for computer in my college didn't know anything about programming languages at all. Plus I messed up really bad in my third year in college (drinking, smoking) . I really regret not achieving my goals in college and not fulfilling my potential. Now I'm done and I have absolutely no confidence in my ability to find a job. I took VB, C++, and java along with networking, data analysis, MS Access and few other things. But I didn't learn much from that professor who didn't know much himself. Is it still possible for me it find a job? If so, then how? I have straightened myself out since last year and I am a bright student. Help me.
Jobs for an average computer science major?
Most employers don't look at the GPA. You should only put it on your resume if it's over 3.5 anyway. You could start out in tech support and work your way up. They kind of expect beginner tech support people to be clueless. Try and get some certifications like A+ and MCSE. Or, if you're really not interested in computers after all, you could move into a different profession and still have the degree behind you.

I may have contracted Hep C,and am a nurse.Do I have to disclose to my job?
The CDC has stated that infected health care workers who perform activities which may be prone to tranfer of body fluids may pose a small risk to patients.
As such, and in order to protect the patients, you should submit to testing by your employer or submit copies of your confirmed test to your employers human resources department. They may place you in positions which do not place any risks to patients. If these positions are not available then you may be fired.
Current studies indicate that most transmission is by direct transmission of body fluids, and that sexual contact has a minimal risk but may be responsible for as much as 20% of new cases. Therefore you should always report any fluid contamination during work exposures. Failure to dio this would normally make one assume, that you were not using universal precautions at the time, and did not want to be involved in the incident reporting process. However, if you had reported the possible exposure, seroconversion and a positive Hep - C would have provided you with worker's compensation funds for the $700-$1400 per month for interferon therapy.
Best wishes. But don't compond your last mistake by not informing someone now and possbly infecting a patient by exposing them.

People don't realize (nor is it publicized that much, which is a mystery to me) that Hep C is also sexually transmitted.
You don't have to report Hep C (you are protected by HIPAA) to your employer, but MORALLY you should disclose it if you accidently cut yourself and bleed on a patient..b/c Hep C is transmitted via body fluids, and the hospital may require you to be tested in the event this happens, as part of your employment.
The reason you don't have to disclose it is because it cannot be transmitted through casual contact...if you ever contract something that can be, then as a heathcare worker, you are NOT in a protected class and must disclose.
Reply:You have to look at the greater good.....and the greater good is to come clean to protect innocent people you may come in contact with.
Reply:a nurse not disclosing that they've contracted hep c -- sounds like another good reason to rush down to the hospital for healthcare
yes, it's all about your rights and not that of the patients.
Reply:Are you really a nurse? I don't know any nurses that would even think to not disclose any illness.
Reply:Yes, you have to report it to your employer, good news, they cannot fire you. hep c is not transmissable by casual contact, you won't be able to draw blood obviously, but there is no other thing you must avoid as a nurse. If you had a needle stick at some time and didn't report it, you have no one but yourself to blame for your situation. Had you reported it, the hospital would be responsible for treatment you may need, now it's on your dime, foolish girl, should have paid closer attention in school when they taught you about the legalities involved in nursing.
Reply:I don't know if you have to tell your job, but you should. If you can't give it to your patients then the hospital isn't going to fire you. But if you can infect your patients and tell nobody then you are asking for some serious karma. Could you really live with yourself if you infected someone?? Didn't you take some kind of oath to only HELP people?? You're the nurse, you should know the risks of not telling anybody. How would you like it if the tables were turned?? If you don't report this, you better believe it WILL come back and bite you in the a**. Please do the right thing. If you lose your job, it's not the end of the world.
Reply:You are obligated to inform your employer of your medical status. Due to the safety/health-sensitive nature of your profession, you are obligated.
Your employer will take the necessary steps to protect you and your patients. Your employer can not fire you, unless it directly effects your ability to perform your job functions. If it does, they will work with you to try to find a suitable position that will utilize your skills and minimalize your exposure. If they can't find an acceptable alternative, then yes, they can terminate your employment with them.
If you do NOT inform your employer, and it is discovered later that you have Hepatitis C, or any other transmittable disease that you have not divulged, not only will you be terminated, if there are any legal repurcussions, you will have to deal with these as well.
Reply:Being in the medical field you have to let your employer know

I can look up my rights. I may have contracted it from my job but have never reported a needle stick,or anything like that. Will I get fired from my job? Should I report this? I'm so scared about this. Any website where I can look.
I have a b/f that always works and he is mad b/c I got a job sometimes I am at work when he calls @ 2am,help!?
I cant wait around for him and I am earning money for my dream car...what do I do? He is two years older than I am. He is planning for us to do things together when he is off work but it conflicts with my job and I am making great money at this job. I really dont know what to do bc I have never felt like this with anyone else and I dont want him to think I am choosing money over him but that seems to be the only way it breaks down....HELP ME PLEASE!
I have a b/f that always works and he is mad b/c I got a job sometimes I am at work when he calls @ 2am,help!?
You've got to take care of you and do what is best for you. Discuss this with him...if he's too selfish to accept that you have a goal and are willing to work to reach it, then you don't need him. The world doesn't revolve around him and his whims...if he really cares about you, he'll give you kudos for what you are doing, and support you and your decision...
I think it's great that you're working for something you want...possibly he lacks the maturity to deal with that idea or is used to being given what he wants without having to earn it...either way, he has to realize that for most of us, we work for what we want or we don't get it...you should not have to give up your dream, for someone who is selfish...the car will give you joy much longer if it comes down to having to choose...

Hmm well see here...
i have like...small C boobs, and i want a full C.
But my boyfirend says boob jobs are un attractive.
and so do alot of my friend boys.

Reply:No. Boob jobs are unnatural, and are really a "look but don't touch" kind of thing. They only attract the shallow types who equate a woman's attractiveness with her cup size.
Oh, and they're particularly off-putting when they're too large for the woman's body, which happens altogether too often.

Would a programmer make more programming in C#.net or VB.net?
I've been applying for VB.Net programming jobs but figure try a C#.Net position both languages work the same with asp.net so figured why not
Would a programmer make more programming in C#.net or VB.net?
They are the same. VB (.net or other) is just a lot more wordy. Its C# counterpart uses a lot more brackets and semicolons, and is much easier to read. It contains a SMALL bit more functionality, but almost negligible. Paywise, I would pay the same for an employee, unless the employee has experience in other technologies, databases, and programming languages.
Now if the question was for c++ versus classic VB, the C++ employee has a much higher skillset. But Vb.Net and C#(.Net) produce the same results, with nearly exact same code, and are functionally the same.
So - bottom line, it depends on experience. The languages themselves are virtually identical.
Reply:It is not the language that you know, it is the way you handle salary negotiations. I know a dumb azz network adminstrator that barely can cut on a computer that makes more than I do.
And i am a C# (and VB.net ,C++, Perl, PHP, etc.) programmer.
RJ
Reply:Although the two languages are very similar in syntax and perform similarly since they both compile to Intermediate language, C# is more in demand.
It is a myth that C# performs better however there is a grain of truth in that. VB.NET allows you to take actions that hinder performance. Such actions might not be possible to take in VB.NET.
There is also a reason why C# programmers are more in demand. Most of these programmers used to be java developers. VB.NET programmers usually come from VB6.0 which is less object oriented than java, hence employers are more interested in hiring C# developers.
hope this helps
Reply:C# is a much more complex language than VB.
You can write ASP.NET applications in either C# or VB, but that's just a small subset of the rest of what you can do. VB is easier, C# is more flexible.
Good luck.
Reply:I'm a Java programmer primarily but have had to program in C# and VB on occasion. I thought I had seen something indicating the VB, while still around, is going to slowly fade away in favor of C#. You might want to see if Microsoft has any long range plans listed for the two languages and consider your choice based on that. I personally find both limiting from a cross platform perspective and work primarily with Java in WebLogic so I have a wide range of platforms that I can work on.

Which place i forwerd my C.V. for sales job??????
Hi Amrendra
There is no specific place where you need to forward your CV, but you need to register at all the major job portals like Yello Jobs etc. Here is one where you can apply.

Which place i forwerd my C.V. for sales job??????
If you post your resume on sites such as Monster and Careerbuilder, then you should receive some emails and/or calls from company representatives w/ open sales positions. I get them all the time and I'm not interested in a career in sales. The word "sales" isn't even on my resume at all, so I really don't know what makes them think to even contact me about such positions.
Reply:Hi
You may register in Naukri.com or Monster India.com and attach your resume. Accordingly, depending on your profile, you will get calls. You can also register in other placements. If you do a Google Search, you will get a list like rediff.com and many other placements.

Check your paycheck. Did they withhold Virginia State taxes?
If they did, and you want them back, then yes, you have to file, though you'll file as a "non-resident".

Yes, but you should be able to take a credit on your DC return for the taxes you paid to VA

Museum curator, costumer, hmmm....archeologist, cultural anthropologist.
In reality, what you major in during college has an impact on your first job..but not much of an impact on your overall career choices. Having a degree is huge, which major is not so important with the exception of teaching and majors that lead to specific professions (like medical school).
I started out in clothing design and business, and ended up with elecrical engineering and most of a business degree.
I write for a living, and have also been a financial planner and a website designer. In other words, my majors have been nearly irrelevant.
I still get a kick out of being a semi-famous (at least within my own realm) writer, when I never took a college level English course!
Anyhow...study something now you genuinely enjoy. You won't likely regret it and you're only young once.
In the end there are so many options out there that you probably never thought of, that you may thoroughly enjoy.
Also keep in mind the world keeps changing. Many popular professions these days, did not exist 20 years ago; I am certain the future holds many other surprises and changes.
Study what you love now. While you can. The career will follow.
Reply:I would suggest restoration of ancient medieval documents (curator) or work at a museum where people travel and collects medieval era items. The best source go to the library and ask the librarian your interest in that field and what are her/his recommendations in the subject.
Reply:Obviously a professor
Historians work at big libraries, with archaeologists, and write books.
Reply:you could write books, be an anthropologist, or make history documentaries.
Reply:Museum curator, archaeologist, conservator, even steward of historical sites. Not every job involving history requires one to teach.
Reply:museum, renaissance festival, medieval times restaurants
Reply:Certainly the film industry would be interested in your expertise. Check with costumers and stylists in major film industry towns, Hollywood, Toronto.

In the tv drama C.S.I What job title does Jim brass have??
I kno he is in the police department, but whats his role, anyone kno!
In the tv drama C.S.I What job title does Jim brass have??
Det. Capt. James "Jim" Brass (Paul Guilfoyle): Homicide captain. Brass was the head of the CSI unit in Las Vegas until he was moved back to the police homicide division in the second episode. He was originally from New Jersey. He continues to work with CSI despite problems in season two with his daughter, who is a drug addict and a prostitute in Los Angeles. It was discovered in the season 2 episode Ellie that he is not Ellie's biological father. He is now captain in the homicide division and works closely with the CSI team. He is very often the one that leads questionings, and his sarcastic attitude makes these questionings darkly humorous, keeping in step with the show's feel.

Is it wrong to tell my "biracial" niece that the reason why she's not getting a job is b/c she keeps checking
White on her applications??????????? Other family members have told me to stay out of it,but this is just silly to me.
Is it wrong to tell my "biracial" niece that the reason why she's not getting a job is b/c she keeps checking
Your family members are correct. But if she's biracial she needs to check other. Its not like they have a biracial slot to check on there.
Reply:Do you have insider information of this? I think there are probably more productive things you could help her with if you're going to interfere!
Reply:How do you know? Unless you have absolute proof that this is the case then its only assumptions on your part. Moreover, if it is happening and you have proof then she's got a major lawsuit on her hands because employers can't discriminate on the basis of race. Lastly, there are some who think that if you have any black in your blood that you have to identify yourself as black. That is an old way of thinking that really should have been done away with long ago - just like asking someone's race in the first place should be. Point is if she is biracial, she has the right to identify herself according to how she feels.
Reply:its her perogative to check which ever box she feels suits her.. and if she's chosen that, then theres nothing silly about it, if shes part white.. then she has the right to claim that if she feels thats what she wants to do, and ur family is VERY RIGHT its none of your business BUTT OUT
Reply:when a person is biracial they can choose the race they want on them plus u don't even have to answer that question thats descrimination she can sue if thats the real reason
Reply:It's not your place to tell her anything, that's why she has parents. Let them do the telling of anything negative she needs to hear.
Reply:It's none of your business. You're family members are correct.
Reply:I am confused about what your are asking. Are you asking if your niece is NOT getting a job is because she calls and wants to know what's going on, or because she put down something on her application that YOU question???
As for the first part, some places of employment become annoyed when an applicant calls and asks what's going on with his/her application. Some don't. I work at a place where the employer gets annoyed. It looks like the applicant is too anxious.
The second part- what she puts on her application is her business, not yours. I don't know if that has anything to do with getting an interview or a job. I know it is against the law to lie on an application and to deny a person employment because of his/her ethnic background. But, again, that's your niece's business, not yours. It is up to her to pursue it if she feels she has been discriminated against because of her ethnic background.
Reply:It's none of your business.
Reply:You really think that's why she's not getting a job? Yes you are wrong. When the right job comes along she will land it no matter what she checks on the application. They'll look at her experience and education.
Reply:I don't think that's the reason she is not getting jobs and I don't think it's any of your business to tell her what box to check.
Reply:You honestly believe that the reason why she is not getting a job is because she misrepresents the colour of her skin on an application form? and are there REALLY still places in the World where your ethnicity is a QUESTION on an application form??? You mean that an Employer could reject someone's application because they were a particular colour? without considering their qualifications? My God! Do you live on Earth?
Reply:I guess you mean she should take advantage of affirmative action, but being white shouldn't stop a person from getting a job. Calling herself white might confuse them when she shows up at the job interview if she doesn't look white. I'm racially mixed myself although I look more white, but I can tell you it is a confusing issue, especially when your family sends you mixed messages. She needs support to learn to be proud of who she is, and it isn't something to be hidden or ashamed of. After that getting a job is secondary!
Reply:yes it is let her find out on her own...

If you studied c++ what kind of job you would be able to carry?
programming? if you studied that, a whole WORLD of opportunities are open for you. programming is a good thing to have on a resume, especially when applying to jobs involving computer tech. my teacher is a programmer, and i believe he said that he tought his nephew programming, and now his nephew is making more money than his friends flipping burger patties at in-and-out! lol. anyways, there are a whole MESS of jobs, and they have a good pay. study c++ (i really hope you mean programming), it's good for you. =]
If you studied c++ what kind of job you would be able to carry?
Tons actually. It doesn't mean if you studied C++ you will end up in the IT line. I know someone who studied IT at school with me and right now working as a programmer for an engineering company; programming their manufacturing line work stations.

I am a former programmer (C/C++). What is the best language for me to get another job as a programmer?
I have a Master's degree in computer science. I've worked in the computer field for about 25 years overall.
From 1985 - 1996 I worked as a programmer, doing mostly C/C++ along with some assembly language. I also did some small amounts of other programming languages. In 1997 I was outsourced by the company I worked for, and I decided to go into business for myself. For the last 10 years I've done network support and installation, desktop support, and other computer related work as an independent contractor. I have only done a little bit of recreational programming.
If I wanted to return to being employed as a programmer again, what would be my best languages. I realize that C is still used some, but I know that Java and C# are also very popular.
Which languages would I find it easiest to program in, and in which languages would I find it easiest to find a job in? Also, what types of programming would give the best pay?
I am a former programmer (C/C++). What is the best language for me to get another job as a programmer?
________________
I strongly recommend that you leverage your expertise in C/C++ by learning C#. C# is an extremely popular language, and it is in high demand by employers. Moreover, you will not have such a steep learning curve in order to master it—given your extensive knowledge of the other members of the C family. It is both a logical and natural progression for you.
I cannot speak to the salaries, because that is geographically dependent. I can say that on the West coast, highly proficient C family programmers, having more than six years of experience, easily command $80k to $100k salaries.
That said, let's examine which language is the more preferred in the IT sector...
In the IT sector, programmers with Java skills are absolutely, positively the highest in demand, compared to all other languages.
http://www.jasonkolb.com/weblog/2007/02/...
Available jobs are a pretty good indicator of the number of development projects for a given language. Java pretty much dominates in this area, with C# coming in a distant second, and ASP.NET and PHP not too far behind. Not a bad showing for Microsoft, actually.
______________________________...
This next section breaks down the number of programming jobs that were available on a given day. They are arranged by language. Data from the popular internet job search site Monster.com is used as an example.
Data collected from Monster.com:
Java: 6274 jobs
ASP.NET: 2318 jobs
C##: 2737 jobs
Javascript: 2451 jobs
Ruby: 86 jobs
VB.NET:1774 jobs
Python: 311 jobs
PHP: 674 job
If you display the above information in a pie chart, the overwhelming popularity of Java becomes even more obvious.
______________________________...
Let's evaluate the relative popularity of Java, based upon five other criteria:
1) Monthly entries into job search engines: These searches show pretty much the same trend, Java is the 800-lb gorilla here too. Surprisingly, though, Javascript is second even though it's not anywhere near the top in available jobs. I suppose that could be because it's almost the de-facto programming language of the Web, so all the hobbyist and design programmers tend to use it as well.
2) Open source projects: Open source projects are like secret to many programmers; they are the foundation of many custom development projects. Java still wins this round, but PHP gives it a run for its money.
C# gives a strong showing as well, surprisingly. Such strong open source support for a proprietary language is very interesting.
3) Add-ons and support systems: Every programming has an ecosystem of products around it, whether its training and certification, IDE's, or debugging and profiling tools. The dollars per click that advertisers are willing to pay is a good indication of how much competition there is for upsells of the language. In this area, Java finally meets some serious competition from PHP.
4) Number of books sold: Java dominates the number of books available. C# makes a strong showing here coming in right after PHP.
5) Number of entries into Google's search engine: Search trends, from Google: Java dominates again. This criteria evaluation excluded Ruby, ASP.NET, and VB.NET. This is because Google only allowed for the charting of five terms—and those three came in last. The search numbers for Java, PHP, and Javascript seem to be dropping. Presumably, that is due to the rising popularity of the newer languages like Ruby on Rails, as well as using search words like AJAX to replace the term "Javascript," while still referring to the same thing (Javascript).

Java is the easiest for me
Reply:Hey you've got a great portfolio. You're way senior than me in the IT field but still I'd like to suggest stuff to you without making myself look bad.
You can do with C/C++ today also but on the hardware integration level (like programming for the various gadgets like iPhones, smart phones etc). However the trend is focused on higher level languages since the computer has become much powerful and the processing power isn't much of an issue.
If you're interested in web development then I'd suggest you to go with various web service platforms - like .NET, Sun's ONE etc. If you are more adaptive to the server side programming ,esp on UNIX or Linux then you can go with PHP. On Microsoft ASP.NET and VB.NET, or C# is a must.
Since MS platform is popular mostly on the corporate environment, as you might have noticed with your background on desktop+network support, you might want to go with .NET to be on the safe side. A better way would be to get a MCSE certification just proving the companies that you're still on the roll. (Especially due to the changing trend in technology)
Well - you can go with the JAVA platform - but I can't really say what's going on with it.
But the key thing nowadays is to be a programmer who also has a knowledge on designing if you are trying to be the UI (User Interface) developer. Actually the design aspect will help you even if you don't want to program at all - there's a whole new dimension to it.
For hardcore designers I'd recommend developing Flash applications. They could be powerful too especially when developing 3 tier software.
And finally no matter what programming language you choose be sure to equip yourself with the knowledge of database - esp Oracle, MS SQL and My SQL. They'll come handy all the time.
With the hands on Network experience and C/C++ knowledge you'll be the great asset to any organization you wish to work.
Good luck on your career as a programmer!
Reply:HELLO WORLD! I love that intro for all the computer freaks out there..
JAVA is the best thing for you. Its quite easy to use but very hard to master. Unlike c and c++ java is still growing and you can only master a part of java and not the whole of java.
If you know C++ and have basic knowledge in JAVA and VB then you might try .NET coz its almost a combination of JAVA and VB in C++ coding style.
Very easy to use and very easy to learn. I was once a c++ programmer and became a vb intermediate programmer and became a java programmer then a .net. Now I am a operations manager. hahahaha...
.Net Programmers gets 7/10 pay + Advance DB Programming = 8/10 pay
Java Programmers gets 7/10 pay + Advance DB Programming = 9/10 pay
C/C++ programmers gets 6/10 pay + Advance DB Programming = 7/10 pay
VB programmers gets 4/10 pay + Advance DB Programming = 4/10 pay
Combine them all and have an intermediate knowledge on all of them then you get 9/10 pay. Master java and msql + oracle and have 5 yrs experience then you can apply for a consultancy position.
Reply:Java would be easy for you.
Reply:A couple things I would look into are systems integration. Managing and Installing systems such as SAP, Oracle or Biztalk are in high demand.
If you have PM skills and skills in the above technologies you could get a good job.
If you are looking for a programming job you can still find many jobs in C. I would look for jobs online and in the newspaper in your area and see what people are looking for C# or Java.
From the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s I worked as a programmer, doing mostly C/C++ along with some assembly language.
I realize that C is still used, but I know that Java and C# are also very popular.
Which languages would I find it easiest to program in, and in which languages would I find it easiest to find a job in? Also, what types of programming would give the best pay?
Any other suggestions about doing this?
I am a former programmer (C/C++). What is the best language for me to get another job as a programmer?

Any good/descent jobs while in College?
So, I'm going to school during the day. I've always worked Mon-Fri office type jobs and classes at night. But I want to give my 110% this time and take classes in the am so I'm nice and fresh. I need a job thats descent paying b/c I'll still have bills unfortunately lol, but I've done waitressing before and not really fond of it. I was thinking maybe banquet server?? Is it long hours? The pay? OR any other suggestions? Thanks so much =)
Any good/descent jobs while in College?
Banquet serving is pretty much waitressing without the tips. And you are not guaranteed to work a lot maybe only when there is a big event. You should try your school placement office they usually have companies who want to hire college students and are willing to work around your schedule. Also try temp agencies or telemarketing/ call centers these are good options. Check your school bulletin boards. I found a great job that was posted around my school. It is even an office job that WANTS you to bring your books and study. Good Luck
Reply:Have you tried Bartending?
Better pay than banquets or waiting table and if you are in a restaurant the hours aren't so bad.
Reply:Waitressing worked for me because the best tippers were at dinner (if you have serious people skills) and because restaurant work is so flexible .
Banquet servers make lousy $ .
But , unless you get a good restaurant AND have those social skills , waitressing will be meager bucks too .
Reply:You might want to look into hotel as a front desk operator, bellhop, valet, etc. You can amke decent money if you are able to get some type of supervisory role, like a night auditor.
I made great money fro colleg as a bellhop and the work was low stress, in fact I was able to study alot during down times.
Reply:I applaud you for your decision to work while in school. I worked as a waitress while my husband went through college and that was the best way for us to make money!
The hours can be very flexible when you work evenings.Plus customers are out to relax, interact and have fun (meaning better tips)
Besides the money you can make some very interesting connections (for potential professional jobs lined down the road).
All in all is the ONLY way to make decent money in pm while in school.
Good luck!
Reply:mmm...i actually preferred taking my classes at night. i always found the instructors to be more sympathetic to those who worked all day and still came to class at night....but that's not the question.
take a look at lockbox processors at banks. they usually work evenings/nights with WAY better pay than waitressing.
since you have food service experience, have u thought of bartending??? some restaurants will train u if you make a good impression. go to the country clubs/swanky hotels and see what they have...
have u looked at clerical positions in warehouses? (shipping %26amp; receiving clerk?) u've got skills...don't sell yourself short.
your school SHOULD have some type of career resource center to help you as well. if not, start making buddies with your instructors...make them WANT to help u.
Reply:Ok watch out for the scam above. My suggestion would be to get a job in the library on campus. They often have very flexible hours, give you time to study when it is quiet and save you travel time as it is on campus.

.NeT is currently on the go in the IT market. I'm also learning on C#, ASP .Net 2.0. I would recommend best to have Software engineering skills like Project Management. Not to worry. you'll have a great future ahead.
Reply:Given you background , with an MBA in MArketing and experience as a FInancial service consultant, you would be an ideal candidate for SAP CRM. I would strongly suggest that instead of getting into programming, get into the functional side of SAP.

How many years of a language do you need to apply for a job in the C.I.A.?
It isn't a matter years that you need; it is a matter of how well you can speak, understand %26amp; read the language. Many have come from families that were bi-lingual thus did not need to study a language at all, they were already fluent in a language.

I have a home business that many young people are getting into because they see the potential to earn a phenomenal income by the time they are 21. There are people in their early 20's who have built their businesses quickly and will never worry about money again. Incomes of $20k/mo are definately not unusual in this business provided you treat it like a million dollar business and build it every day. It's not get rich quick by any means, but all the training is provided to accellerate the process.

Serious question; Do you think that PeeWee Herman would do a better job in D.C. than DUH-bya?
Provide details as to why or why not.

Serious question; Do you think that PeeWee Herman would do a better job in D.C. than DUH-bya?
Yes. At least Pee Wee knows how to keep himself happy without destroying the Earth, raging wars with sovereign nations who never threatened the USA, or sucking the economy dry with his inexhaustible greed. So if Pee Wee stole the election from Al Gore in 2000, We will all be in much better shape.

If A can do it in 9 days and B in 8 days. How much days will C work it if they three can finish it in 3 days?
A,B and c can do a piece of work together in 3 days. A can do it alone in 9 days and B can do it alone in 8 days. How long will it take C to do the job alone? Can i have the answer and pls. tell me how you got it? Thanks a lot!
If A can do it in 9 days and B in 8 days. How much days will C work it if they three can finish it in 3 days?
Rate*Time=Work
A's rate is a piece of work per 9 days
B's rate is a piece of work per 8 days.
One piece of work=(a's rate*time)+(b's rate*time)+(c's rate*time)
1=(1/9)t+(1/8)t+Ct
We know the time because it says that it takes 3 days, so...
1=(1/9)(3)+(1/8)(3)+3C
1=(1/3)+(3/8)+3C
(7/24)=3C
C=7/72,
so C can perform 7 pieces of work in 72 days. That means that it will take C approximately 10.3 days to perform one piece of work.
I hope that this helped.
Reply:Take L.C.M of all the numbers . here L.C.M of 9,8,and 3 is 72.
say, there are 72 units of work to do.
A does 72/9 i.e 8 units of work each day.
B does 72/8 i.e 9 units of work each day.
Together, they can do 72/3 i.e 24 units of work each day.
that means 8+9+ amount of work by C=24
The amount of work done by C is=24-17=7 units of work each day
C will finish it in 72/7 days .
Reply:10 days if everyone can do it in 3 days, then the average person can do it in 9 days 3 x 3=9 3 people times 3 hours. Now if A can do it in 9 hours, then he is average. If B can do it in 8 hours he is only 1 hour less. so the answer is 10 cause its one hour more. 9 + 8 + 10 = 27 / 3 = 9 wich is the average.
c + 17 = 27, find c
JW
Reply:If we give the whole job a value of 1. Then A can do 1/9 in a day and B can do 1/8 in a day. Let's call c the amount C can do in a day. Then
3*(1/9+1/8+c)=1
since they can finish together in 3 days. Solving for c we find
1/3+3/8+3c=1
17/24+3c=1
3c=7/24
c=7/72
So C can do 7/72 of the work in a day. Thus it takes C 72/7, or about 10.3 days to do the work alone.
Reply:suppose each person works at a constant pace,
In 3 days,
A can do 3/9 (=1/3) of the work
B can do 3/8 of the work
the rest of the work is done by C
Therefore, C can do 7/24 of the work in 3 days...
For C to do 1/24 of the work, it would take 3/7 days.
Thus C takes (3/7 * 24) days to do the job alone.
The answer is 10 and 2/7 days or 72/7 days.

My friend has hep c and she needs a job really bad i don't know what to do?
she is a really good hearted person and she really needs some money but she wants to work and we live in a small town and all there are are food jobs could she work at a grocery store if she wore long sleve shirts and gloves?
My friend has hep c and she needs a job really bad i don't know what to do?
She can work absolutely anywhere.
There is no risk for her transmitting Hep C unless she is sharing needles with her customers or sharing razors.
Hep C transmission outside of injection drug use (sharing needles) is fairly uncommon and there are no restrictions on employment.
For Hep C to transmit, her blood has to leave her body and enter the blood stream of another person (which is a pretty difficult task)
So, she can work ANYWHERE she likes and does not have to disclose her Hep C status to her employer. In fact, I wouldn't as there are a lot of misconceptions about Hep C!
Reply:She can work anywhere; she is not precluded from any job. She does not have to wear long sleeves or gloves, either. Hepatitis C is not transmitted in any manner other than blood to blood contact. Please learn the risk factors.

Reply:She can work anywhere; she is not precluded from any job. She does not have to wear long sleeves or gloves, either. Hepatitis C is not transmitted in any manner other than blood to blood contact. Please learn the risk factors.

I don't know where you can get a free CV but you can go to Monster.com, or Career Builder.com and they can give you tips on how to write a good resume. Also if you Have Microsoft word on your computer (a new version) it has a resume builder that will help you to make a professional resume! Best of luck!

99 Accord vibrates while cruising. Had rotors, caps, plugs, valve job, and a/c condenser replaced. New brake pads
Drove it to work and smelled strong burning odor coming from under the hood. Still have minor vibes while idling and a fluttering type noise under the hood. Any ideas what the burning smell could be? Didn't seem to be coming from the tires. I will check motor mounts tomorrow but the dealer said they had checked them out and they were fine.

Do a compression check.
Reply:Quite possible the balance shaft belt wasn't put on correctly.
There are two timing belts on that one. One is the big one and runs the camshaft. The smaller drives the balance shaft in the crankcase. If that is out of time, the motor will vibrate.
After that much repair, there will be some strange smells for a little while. That is normal.
Reply:The burning smell and fluttering noise could be a belt rubbing on something, but probably isn't related to the vibration at cruising speed.
The vibration at cruising speed could be coming from your tires being out of balance or out of round (bent rims, etc) Another possibility is that the drive axles are wearing out. They usually crap out at around 100,000 miles. If you hear a clicking noise when you make tight turns, your drive axles are bad and almost certainly the source of the vibration.
Reply:Check your oil and water, as well as the tires. As far as the burning smell , you really didn't give much of a description. Was it like steam, oil, or electrical?
Reply:well maybe i can help you first when you noticed the car smell did it first start off as a real bad or rotten egg smell? if so guess what you need to only change the cat. converter at the muffler shop about 300 bucks and your car will be fine no more shaking due to exhaust back up and no more fluttering when driving.and don't even worry about the mounts the mechanic that did all that work to your car ---------------------well lets just say look for another mechanic and you'll have some extra money. next he's gonna tell you to replace the fluid in the head lights or that the tires are out of round

With DOEACC 'C' LEVEL degree with me shall I get Government Job? How much respect and value this qualification gets from Pvt. sector?
Does DOEACC 'C' LEVEL got recognation as M.Tech. equivalent status from Government for job ? when it is gettin
yes it is very much recognised. You can see the details at the website of ISI (Indian statistical Institute, Kolkata). they are the first institute/university in India to offer M-tech Computer Science. When the recognise every body will do so. and u know ISI, kolkata is better than IIT also.

Does software testing need C++ ?
A recruiter told me that i have to know one language (preferably C++) for getting a job on testing. Why is it ?
I heard from friends that its easy and no software exposure required ?
can someone help me. i dont have any software background.
Does software testing need C++ ?
1. If you're computer savvy enough to program in C/C++, it indicates you're probably savvy enough to test.
2. If you've actually written C/C++ programs, you probably have tested them (this indicates some sw test experience)
3. Software test requires ability to think very logically and procedurally. This ability is evident in you if you can program C/C++.
Easy? Yes, everything is easy for a genius. Some things are easily tested....not all projects are equal. Not all companies are equal, not all sw is equal....
SW test can be incredibly demanding. You may be expected to multitask and operate numerous applications (that you have never used before) at once.
Then, maybe you'll just type numbers into a web browser and hit the 'run' button all day until something breaks. Obviously, you already know how to operate a web browser.
It really depends on the company you work for, and how they operate, and the types of SW they develop %26amp; test.
Good luck.
Reply:It can be easy, if you're lucky to be in an easy software testing role. Learn Python and take it from there. However, depending on the environment, the focus on quality and the processes required, software testing can be quite challenging. The weight of your testing will depend on the product and the impact should you fail to test properly. I put a lot of effort into my tests, even when it comes to those days when I just just get annoyed. However, all it takes is a quick reminder that failing to put in the extra effort may cost someone their life. Either way, I usually enjoy doing this type of stuff.
Reply:It really depends on the environment for testing.
Unix systems have alot of testing facilities that aren't C++ based.
You actually need to know a few languages, and most of those are a higher-level (although some languages like perl have their own test suites) than the one the program is written in so you can write wrapper scripts to test the programs
Reply:well c++ is one of the most often used languages and a really good language to learn. however if you have no backround in programming languages might i suggest python. it is a very easy language to understand and very easy for beginners to learn which has many strong points that c++ does not have
Reply:They would rather you find problems AND suggest fixes.

Anybody have a yuppie job but don't really fit in b/c you aren't a yuppie?
Thank god I'm not. Everytime I see a coworker i just think to myself "that dude looks like such a douchebag". I come from a working class family and all my friends are like me as well. I just happen to get lucky as hell and get a job in IT so now I am a white trash punk rocker workin with yuppies. I look at myself in disgust sometimes when goin to work in the morning cuz i have to dress up and i think "damn, I look like a douchebag now too". Everyone is so fricken gung ho about work and their careers I dont get it. I just wanna do my 9-5 so i can pay my bills then forget about it. Not these people, they are obsessed. Can't even have a real conversation b/c you have to watch your language and speak properly and make sure you don't offend anyone. Sometimes I miss workin as a cook and making 8 bucks an hour. But in order to make a living, I guess you have to become a douchebag. Anyone else think like me or do I just need to grow up?

You're right on dude. Save plenty of your money so you can tell them all to go to hell when you're still young enough to enjoy some of your life. That's what I've done and I'll be saying bye-bye to these corporate ******* by the end of the year.
Reply:you're so right. I've recently become operations Manager at my job... and i dread the day i have to start wearing suits and the like to work. I wear Jeans and a t-shirt so far. Its a small company but growing like wildfire.. so soon i will have to be the ****** boss..and eventually have to fire people. So not looking forward to that. Why must i trade in my Nike airs for Prada loafers?

I would love to own my own fashion boutique! what g.c.s.e would i need?

What g.c.s.e do i need to do this job..?
Art or design, textiles and business studies would probably be the best ones to go for, for GCSE and A level

If you own a fashion boutique you will be self employed, so technically you will not need any GCSEs.
However, and trust me on this, you would be better with them than without them; indeed you would be much better off, and probably find it easier to get ahead in the industry, with as much education as possible.
Reply:you do Textiles to help you i think
Reply:i would do textiles and/or art, for A levels, art again and maybe business
Reply:I agree with the person who said you need to take textile. also take economics. it'll help you with the business part.
Reply:Textiles - if they do not offer it then just Art. Business studies would be very useful. A language would be extremely useful, but i suppose not essential.
A levels would be textiles, but again just Art if your school/college does not offer it. A language - French or Spanish would be good. English would help also! Business studies or Economics.
