Go to your local Salvation Army, they do have programs to help people in your situation pay rent and utilities temporarily until you are back on your feet.
Reply:If you are eligible for unemployment, contact the utility and explain the situation. They may not impose a penalty for not paying the bill until the first unemployment check arrives.
Reply:Call the Salvation Army in your town if they dont do that they will know who does. Nearly every community has agencies that help with utilities..
Reply:Your better choice is to call your utility company and explain to them you would not be able to pay the bill and the reason. Provide them a proof of your lay-off notice. This will buy you some time. Don't expect others to pay for you unless you have children and spouse at home.
Reply:Call the utility company and explain your sitiuation. Most of them will let you get on a payment plan if you're in that sort of situation. Sometimes they may require 50% of the bill to be paid at the time of payment arrangement, so be prepared for that.
Reply:You may also call each utility company and they will direct you to where help is available.
